Dr. Emmett Brown
Human Resources Manager
Flux Deluxe Industries

115 Twin Pines Mall Blvd.
Hill Valley, California

Dear Dr. Brown:

I am writing to apply for the Electrical Engineering Co-op Position for Flux Deluxe Industries that was posted by the Engineering Co-op and Internship Office at Penn State this week. The position requirements mesh well with my abilities and interests in innovative traveling. I have enclosed a resume for your review.

The job posting indicates a need for candidates with knowledge of programming to develop unique power generation systems. The electrical engineering curriculum at Penn State includes extensive coursework in power and control systems, and I am acquainted with various types of electric machinery and drives. I am proficient with PSPICE and the MATLAB graphical environment, and I also have a uniquely extensive knowledge of physics, as I have pursued a physics minor. My experience as a technician for Delorean Labs last summer also gave me an opportunity to use my knowledge and skills in a professional, high-paced atmosphere where I worked within a team environment.

Please feel free to contact me at (814)115-2015 or mbm@psu.edu to discuss my qualifications. I am very excited to have the opportunity to speak with you about the co-op position with the possibility of working at Flux Deluxe Industries. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Marty B. McFly

Hey Mare – Re: ROWE and your internship.

If there are actual physical visitors that you yourself are responsible for greeting, you may be a little stuck. However, if its kind of a thing where you aren’t necessarily responsible for / someone else could very easily do it instead / its really someone else’s role anyway but you’re doing it cause your the intern, then maybe there’s some wiggle room.

The phone thing is actually really easy – you could just have the phone forward to your cell phone instead (or any other phone, for that matter, even a Skype Number if you rock that). If your phone can’t do this there are a number of online services that can – Google’s GrandStation service comes to mind (I think). Although, these types of services are typically not free.

If the phone thing is like the physical visitors where you’re just kind of doing it but aren’t necessarily required to, you could maybe strike a deal with your boss without worrying about the forwarding phone.

If you’re really serious about the work at home thing, see if you can maybe try it out once a week or some random day, and then make sure you’re super productive that day. If you can show that you get more done at home vs. the office, I think you’ve got a better shot at getting more hours at home or even doing it full time there.
